El Paso

El Paso is the westernmost city in Texas. Located on the Rio Grande, El Paso lies across the U.S.-Mexico border from Ciudad Juarez in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. These two cities along with Las Cruces, New Mexico comprise an international metropolitan area with more than 2.7 million people. El Paso is within the Chihuahuan Desert and is divided from north to south by Franklin Mountains State Park, the largest urban park in the United States.

As an international crossing point, El Paso is one of busiest in the country; only San Diego is busier. More than 10 million people enter the United States from the El Paso del Norte Port of Entry every year. And in 2015, $72 billion in international trade crossed through the port of El Paso.

In addition to international trade, El Paso’s economy is also fueled by the military—Fort Bliss, William Beaumont Army Medical Center and Biggs Army Airfield are here—government civil service, oil and gas, health care, tourism and more recently, American-based call centers.
